Osceola
Cub Day Camp
Osceola
District is proud to host two weeks worth of Cub Day Camp this summer. In fact,
we have two themes. For the first week, the theme is “Science in Action” and
the second week is “Native American.”
Both
weeks of Cub Day Camp will be held at the Elks Lodge in Kissimmee. The first
week is June 9-13, 9am-4:30pm. The second week is set for July 7-11, 4-9pm. Yes,
those times are correct. Our volunteers are proud to be hosting a
one-of-a-kind "Twilight Camp" during our second week. The theme
will still incorporate science, but there will be different activities planned
including Native American studies.
All
of the details and ONLINE registration are available on the Council website.

Osceola
Scout Show Recap
The 2008 Osceola Scout Show is in the books –
and it was a huge success. More than 30-units hosted inventive, fun and
interactive booths around the theme: “Sc-OUTING.”
The Scout
Show also featured a weapons demonstration from Medieval Times, free comic books
from Coliseum of Comics, visitors from the Navy, Army, Air Force, Marines and
Coast Guard, a helicopter from LifeNet, the OA Grill, demo teams from the
Osceola Police and Fire Departments, and Arthur Polnasek’s crane, which
hoisted our American flag and sign high over the action.
The Osceola
Scout Show was a success because of the people behind it – thanks to our Scout
Show Chair, Craig Veley, and his team: Mary Lou Moench, Turner Wallis, Gordon
Gray, Karen Crotty, Albert Moench, Lee Mikell, Crew 192 and Arthur Polnasek.
Discount
Card Recap
As for the
Discount Card sale, Osceola Scouts and Scouters took full advantage of this
year’s fundraiser and the 40% commission!
Units in the
District sold more than 6,400 cards, a 30% increase over last year. That means
about $30,000 is in the hands of Osceola County Scouting programs right now.
Wow! Can’t wait until 2009
Leader
Recognition Banquet Recap
The 2008
Osceola Leader Recognition Banquet was a huge success. More than 65-leaders were
in attendance – a new record – and together, we celebrated “another year
of Quality.”
Attendees
heard from County Commissioner and Cub Scout parent John “Q” Quinones, as
well as, incoming District Chair and State Representative Frank Attkisson. We
also paid a fond farewell to our outgoing Chairman, Larry Walter.
Fun was had
by all and everyone enjoyed the quail too! Congrats and thanks goes to our
Banquet Chair, Alasha Mikell and her team.
District
Award of Merit
In
conjunction with the Osceola Leader Recognition Banquet, the Central Florida
Council was proud to bestow the District Award of Merit on deserving volunteers.
The 2008
selection team met and poured over more than a dozen nominations. This year’s
class includes:
·
Phillip Knepper
·
Ross Keener
·
Debbie O’Quinn
All
of these volunteers exemplify service to youth in our community and are
extremely deserving of this honor.

are several ways to stay in the know when it comes to District events, campouts
and activities.

Receive e-mails from the District’s Osceola BSA Yahoo groups. To
receive District e-mails, simply send an e-mail to osceolabsa-subscribe@yahoogroups.com.
2)
Attend Roundtable! Roundtable is a once a month meeting for ALL unit
leaders. Monthly trainings are held at Roundtable for all Cub Scout and Boy
Scout leaders. The latest District and Council news is also available.
Roundtable is held on the 3rd-Monday of the month at 7pm at Bible
Baptist Church, which is on 192 between Denn John and Michigan Avenue. It’s
across from Valencia Community College.
Register
to be a leader! If you’re not registered as a leader in your unit, do it! It
will do wonders for you, your kids and your community. Not to mention, all
registered leaders receive Scouting magazine for free. It comes once a month and
is chock full of helpful Scouting information.
